ADVOCACY

The Canadian Caregivers Association (CCA) would like to hear from you! We would like to find out what you think the priority issues are that we should tackle over the next year on caregiving.

Our mission is to come together with a unified voice to promote awareness and action to address the needs of Canadian families and caregivers across Canada .

It is our goal to protect the working caregivers and their rights. It is also our goal to raise awareness among Canadian families to hire those caregivers who are reliable and to use the services of those agencies that provide a professional service by following Canada laws.

We intend to advocate on behalf of caregivers and employers with policy makers at all levels and other key stakeholders to promote action to address the needs of live-in caregivers and Canadian families.

Join us to make a difference in the lives of Canadian caregivers and families!

The number of caregivers and employing families is growing and their needs will increase significantly unless there is action taken at all levels of the health care system. Key players in the community, public, private and volunteer sectors need to band together to create a unified voice.

To: Citizenship and Immigration Canada - Government of Canada
and the Office of the Prime Minister

“Strong families ensure a bright future for Canada. The most important investment we can make
as a country is to help families raise their children.”

Letter of Support/Petition

the Prime Minister of Canada , 2006

The Canadian Caregivers Association feels that the statements listed below should be enforced to protect the Canadian Families and Caregivers all together.

  1. The Canadian Government should have in place a licensing system allowing agencies to bring foreign workers as nannies and caregivers for the Live-in Caregiver Program in Canada .
  2. The licensing process should be administered by an independent non-government related, non-profit and independent organization.
  3. Agencies should meet first eligibility criteria to be able to administer the Live-in Caregiver Program in Canada .
  4. Agencies are required to screen and select both families/employers and caregivers/nannies as program participants according to selection criteria stated in set regulations.
  5. All caregivers/nannies and selected families are to receive specific information and orientation from the agency.
  6. Agencies should monitor the Family/Caregiver placement for its duration.
  7. Agencies should be audited annually by the independent organization to ensure compliance with set procedures and reporting requirements.

Sincerely,

I have read the Petition to the Citizenship and Immigration Canada - Government of Canada and the Office of the Prime Minister , and I hereby sign the petition:
